1861 marked a tumultuous time in these United States, the civil war would begin. That year Abraham Lincoln, in his first inaugural address, ended by saying, "We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection." Today the United States again finds itself straining against one another. This typographic, silk screen poster with metallic gold ink, is meant to be a warning. More importantly, it serves as an encouragement to return to what unites us, rather than divides us.

Displayed side by side, two prints are flipped opposite each other revealing both dates, forcing viewers to take account of where we've been, where we are, and where we should go.
